Two men were arrested Tuesday during a probation compliance check in Palmdale. Members of the Operation Safe Streets team were looking for Jonathan Cheatham, an active probationer who had a no-bail arrest warrant for cultivation, according to Deputy Robbie Royster of the sheriff's Palmdale Station.
When detectives attempted to contact Cheatham at his home, he began to run from the rear of the home into an open field. A marijuana cultivation operation was discovered and Cheatham was taken into custody a short distance from the home.
Detectives discovered three occupants as well as the marijuana operation, a 12-guage shotgun and an M1 carbine.
More than 160 plants were found in the house, a shed, and a camper shell. Equipment used for cultivating the marijuana was also discovered.
The street value is estimated at $10,000 to $20,000, Royster said.
Cheatham was arrested and booked for his outstanding warrant, cultivation of marijuana and being a felon in possession of a gun.
