Kenneth Roger Markman, a Los Angeles attorney, was arrested Friday on suspicion of trying to smuggle about $30,000 worth of heroin, methamphetamine and pot to clients in custody at the downtown Criminal Courts Building. According to sheriff's deputies, Markman was arrested after a dog sniffed out the drugs, which were wrapped in electrical tape in his suit jacket.
According to sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker, 26 balloons of tar heroin, an unspecific amount of methamphetamine, some pot and some syringes were found. Everything was valued at $30,000.
Markman had a 10 a.m. appointment with a client at the courthouse and while he waited for his client, a sheriff's dog alerted on him.
Markman was booked on suspicion of several drug-related crimes and arrested in lieu of $145,000 bail.
Only details given about the client was that he is "a violent gang member" who was in court Friday to be sentenced. It was not said whether he would face additional charges.
