Four San Fernando Valley medical clinics were raided Thursday September 1, 2011 due to an investigation of facilities that were believed to be illegally providing prescription drugs to much of the West Coast.
Three suspects were arrested for their alleged connection to the "prescription mill" operating from the clinics where Medicare information was used to fill out fake prescriptions for Oxycontin. These fake prescriptions were then taken to pharmacies across California and in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Utah to get the pills and then were sold to drug dealers.
The investigation includes allegations of health care fraud, illegal kickbacks to beneficiaries who sold their Medicare cards to prescription drug dealers, billing the service for exams that were never performed, and tax fraud.
The investigation started as a result of families reporting overdoes of the drug Oxycontin.
Among those in custody was Anush Davtyan, who was arrested after federal officials raided an Encino home.
Two others were arrested at a Northridge clinic in the 8600 block of Reseda Boulevard.
One suspect was found with 23 vials of Oxycontin, which includes 2,000 pills with an estimated street value of $40,000. The second suspect was arrested with false identification used to fill prescriptions for a number of people. Their identities were not released.
